I have been talking a lot lately to MK’s and PK’s.  If you don’t know what I am talking about, I am talking about Missionary/Ministry Kids and Pastor’s Kids.   I myself grew up in a ministry family so I understand to varying levels the situation of these kids.   It is a lot of pressure to grow up in a ministry family.  You always feel like you have to live up to a certain standard, that it is what is expected of you, sometimes by your parents, but most often by others.  I know and I am sure you know many Ministry kids who have gone into rebellion or are still in rebellion.  Often it can be easy for others to judge them, or to judge their parents.  I myself struggle with this thought sometimes.  I am not sure how clear I will be or am about this idea in this post, but I really want to share it so we all can understand and even seek ways to encourage and build up Mk’s.   That we would do this so that they see Christ and His love and grace for them rather than spoken or unspoken pressures to be something they really are not.

I listened to a sermon yesterday by Danny Jones who started our organization in Slovakia, and who is now in Little Rock, Arkansas pastoring a church.   He talked about a common well known story to us, but I believe an important one.  It was the story of the prodigal son or sons.  I have heard it many times but am reminded again of it.  In the story we often think of the younger, being the prodigal son, but in reality, both of them were.  We all are prodigals, that God is bringing to himself, like the father in the story.  Some of us are the rebel, like the younger son, and some of us are the older brother who fights so hard to prove himself.  This is no different for MK’s.  I myself am striving to be more considerate of this fact and not always criticize others, but to encourage and lift them up.  PLEASE if you interact with an MK, show them grace and love, let them know they are loved and accepted no matter what, as we know we all are by God!
