This year our Christmas concert in Banska Bystrica was a little different than normal. We realized we did not have so many Christmas songs, so we decided to make it more “Christmas like” through other means. We had Christmas gifts for people, a meal, many single acts, lights, and the Gospel presentation. I really enjoyed the way we did it. One of the main benefits to the concert format was that many students had the chance to show their individual talents through Christmas songs played and sung, dramas about Christmas, comedy sketches, and Bible verse reading between songs. I believe this was one of our best concerts, because almost everyone had a special thing they could do besides just singing in the choir.
On the weekend after our concert I loaded up the van with equipment and some of our students, to head east and help Obišovce with their Fusion concert. I brought students who could play an instrument on all the songs and new how to set up sound, our most experienced students. I told them we were doing a Mission trip to help our new sister Fusion who still struggles to cover one song with instrumentalists. My students did such a grand job, I am so proud of them!
When I was communicating with Vlado, the leader in Obišovce, he told me they expected around 100 people to attend. I was a little worried as our concerts normally don’t bring this many people, but they are a village. They had rented the town concert hall which seats 200. I was expecting that only 50 people would show up and the room would look empty. I prayed God would do a miracle, I did not want them to be discouraged by the low numbers. God Amazed me! We set everything up and begin our rehearsal. All of the sudden the sound board blew. I searched franticly for the cause and found there was no electrical problem, that the software had malfunctioned somehow. We immediately started searching for another sound board. I prayed quickly, “God please help us! I don’t care if my part failed, the sound board, I can solve it, but please give them success!” He answered my prayer! Their leaders led well and they rehearsed with no sound just the stage piano. Finally, we found a sound board. The concert went incredibly well for their first concert and believe it or not over 130 people came, more than expected! God is so good! Please pray for this group in the new year that they will be guided by God!
